We’ve had 2 shows this week and you’ve probably seen my summary blogs, which I hope you found useful. This blog post is all about TubulesLive itself. Many people have been asking me what it’s all about and how it may differ to the regular so-called webinars.

Online education and learning is no longer a new concept but it is one that has gained huge popularity over the last few years. We are all leading very busy lives and as much as we want to learn more, we often don’t get the time to do so during our busy practice lives. The introduction of webinars and other online resources has helped to revolutionise the ease at which one can access information. However, webinars can be pretty dull for both the viewer and the speaker – mainly because of the lack of interaction with anything apart from a computer screen.

Dhru Shah, the CEO of Dentinal Tubules, wanted to take on the challenge of leveraging 21^st century tools to give access to education to those around the world in a fun and interactive way. This is where the concept of TubulesLive began. TubulesLive is not a webinar; if I even mention the ‘w’ word to Dhru, he get’s very upset! TubulesLive is a live production where a lecturer gives a presentation to a small audience and this is streamed over the web to allow viewers all over the world to also interact. Speakers enjoy this more than a regular webinar as they have an audience to interact with rather than having to stare straight at a camera wondering if anyone is actually watching! The audience can send in their questions to the speaker throughout the presentation and CPD questions are available for all viewers to complete. At the end of the show, the TubulesLive recordings are sent to the editing studio and the on-demand edited version is available to watch on the Dentinal Tubules website soon after.

The TubulesLive team has grown over the last year and consists of a media director, a ground man, several cameramen and a handful of hosts. My role as the programme director includes connecting with international industry experts and inviting them to share their most up-to-date work. I also usually present the introductions as well as the question and answer sessions on the day.

TubulesLive is an educational resource that I believe we should maximise. It provides incredibly valuable education to be accessed by anyone around the world in a way that has never before possible. Especially for the young dentist, I believe this has fast tracked the learning that may have taken a young dentist over a decade to acquire!
